About Barrie Shave

Barrie Shave made valuable contributions to the Medicine Hat community as an educator with Medicine Hat School District #76, and as a volunteer tennis coach, basketball referee, and founding member of the Hidden Valley Ski Patrol.

He retired in 1996 and moved with his wife, Barb, to Elkford, B.C. In early 1999, Barrie was stricken with pancreatic cancer. He died on August 1st that same year.

The Barrie Shave Tennis Classic is our tennis community’s way of remembering Barrie and ensuring that the flame of inspiration he instilled in others will continue to shine.
